The Tsavo Water Access Support Project

The Prevailing Situation
The Tsavo Ecosystem and dispersal areas has almost lost 75% of its traditional water flows and hydrological functions. As a result, the cases of increased human-wildlife conflict are on the rise especially during the dry seasons in-between the two major rain seasons is poverty and livestock deaths.

The Challenge
As most water holes and pans a situated near community areas to support livestock and human use during the prolonged droughts, the water sources have now become areas of conflict as wildlife fight for the meager resources with human beings, especially along the migration corridors. The sharing of open water sources between communities and wildlife is also creating a health risk and increases chances of zoonotic diseases jumping into the human chain or cross infection of wildlife, as situation that could have dire consequences.

The Mitigation
The foundation proposes to mobilise stakeholders for the development of wildlife only water infrastructure deep inside
the wildlife corridors to reduce cases of water resource conflict between communities and wildlife within TEDA.

Expected Outcomes
Development of water infrastructure within the corridors far from community areas and inside community settlements including but not limited to the development of
#Deep solar boreholes
#Water pans
#Large surface water trapping dams capable of lasting 3 years with serious rainfall
